Dancing is the poetry of the foot. – John Dryden
Like any competitive sport, a sense of dedication and commitment to the art of dance are the foundation for success. Instruction in proper technique forms the very basis for advancement to higher levels of achievement. Participation in the competitive program is at the discretion of the artistic director.
Our competitive program begins at age 6. We usually do a couple local competitions, and one out of town competition.
Details of what classes should be studied to be part of the competitive team can be discussed with the Artistic Director.
Individuals interested in doing solo, duos or trios in competition must fill out and return application form for private lessons which are distributed in the fall.
Private lessons are required for solo, duo or trio competition work. These lessons are limited and are awarded on a first come, first-serve basis. An instructor fee and studio rental fee are charged for private lessons and are payable at the commencement of the lessons.
Students must be registered in a formal technique class of the style of dance that they wish to do solo, duo or trio work. For example, must study regular tap class to do a tap solo, or must study lyrical/contemporary to do same.
Costumes are required for all dance numbers being entered in a dance competition and are the responsibility of the parent and/or student to purchase.
Entry fees are also payable for all dance numbers entered in each competition, and are payable by the candidate (student/parent) upon payable in full upon receipt of invoice.
All competition students, in fairness to the class, must adhere to a strong commitment and strict attendance of classes. Should a student miss classes on a regular basis, which would affect the standard of the class, the student will be removed from the competition at the discretion of the Artistic Director without reimbursement of fees paid or costumes purchased.
